I was so humbled to be included with some of NYC's top interior designers and culinary talent to unveil the fabulous new Furniture Gallery at Macy's. My vignette was an ode to Vertner Woodson Tandy, a longtime Striver's Row resident until his death. Tandy was one of the seven founders of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at Cornell University in 1906. He was the first black registered architect in New York State. Tandy's most famous commission was probably Villa Lewaro, the mansion of Harlem millionairess Madam C.J. Walker. Drawing from his life and work I designed a modern salon befitting of Vertner and Harlem. Strivers Row is now a New York City Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
