Beauty Marks
MAKEUP
• Fergie on beauty: "It has hurt me in the past when people say things like how 'fugly' I am or how horrible I look. I've had to learn not to give it such a high priority in life."
• Chunwei Liao creates paper eyelash extensions for her company Paperself. Some of the variations feature horses and peonies.
• Shu Uemura's summer collection includes a silver glitter pressed powder and a multicolor face compact. Don't forget that products are available online.
HAIR
• Dramatics NYC, which has nine locations in the city, is being sued by a Manhattan man named Aaron Horowitz who claims one of the salon's barbers, Digny Deleon, sliced through his ear during a haircut last month. "I felt a sharp pain and opened my eyes to see blood going down my neck and down my shirt," he said.
• Hairstylist Orlando Pita released detailed step-by-step directions on how to master a fishtail braid, like the ones we saw at Doo.Ri's fall 2010 show.
• If you don't want premature graying, don't smoke, because it speeds up the process.
FRAGRANCE
• Jewelry designer Stefano Canturi's first fragrance launches this weekend at Bergdorf Goodman.
• Givenchy released behind-the-scenes footage of Magdalena Frackowiak posing for the Givenchy Eau Demoiselle fragrance campaign.
Armani, Prada, and Other Bigwigs Unite to Save Milan Fashion Week
Fall 2010 Milan Fashion Week was kind of an organizational disaster. After learning Anna Wintour would only be in town for three days, Milan's top designers frantically contacted Fashion Week authorities about changing their show times. And when one person changes — especially a big name like Armani or Fendi — everyone has to change to a time that won't overlap so that the most important showgoers can make it. However, next season Milan's top houses won't stand for a three- or four-day Fashion Week. The houses of Armani and Prada have united and will accept nothing less than a seven-day Fashion Week.
All the big names in Milan — the "unmissables" — have agreed to show evenly across the seven days, so that press and buyers have to stay for the whole thing. Giorgio Armani said the agreement demonstrates that the Italians "are perfectly able to assert [them]selves without fear." Prada chief Patrizio Bertelli said the decision "underlines a sense of belonging we have been afraid of losing because of recent controversies." But the question is, are seven forced days in Milan likely to make Fashion Week attendees any less grumpy than four incredibly hectic ones? Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn called fall 2010 Fashion Week in Milan "an eternity of bad clothes crammed into four days," and lamented the loss of Tom Ford's Gucci shows. What Milan Fashion Week organizers should do is tell everyone Tom Ford will show his womenswear there at a to-be-determined address and date, and not let him show until the end of the last day. That will hold the fashion people captive and get them to stop grumping about it.

Michelle Obama’s New Cover; Alexander Wang Launches Underwear
• Michelle Obama is the cover model for Condé Nast Traveler's May issue. The dress she's wearing is not the same Jason Wu one she wore on the cover of Vogue's March 2009 issue, though it looks similar.
• Isabel Marant on finding the perfect location for her store, which opens today on Broome Street: “I’ve heard about Meatpacking, about Bleecker Street, about Brooklyn. So I’ve been scouting all around, all those places where things are happening. But my heart was still in SoHo because there are beautiful buildings and I wanted to open a quieter, spacey shop.”
• Alexander Wang launched his first underwear collection yesterday on his website. The pieces — crop tops, triangle bra tops, and one-shoulder shelf bras — are part of his T by Alexander Wang collection and retail for $48 to $72.
• New research claims that women spend three years of their lives shopping. That includes hours spent on clothing, accessories, food, and household goods.
• Crystal Renn: "I have a problem with number obsession; that's why I choose for the most part never to go to gyms and do stuff like that because I haven't felt ready. I get obsessed with numbers, as well as other anorexics and other people. I have the freedom to be whatever size and I don't have to worry because there's work! If I was a straight-sized model, one inch would make the difference between a designer hiring me or not. I fluctuate all the time. We're women, it happens!"
• Musician Malcolm McLaren, who died yesterday in Switzerland, was the ex-partner of Vivienne Westwood and often sought out to talk about fashion.
• Did you know Gucci makes an $895 baby carrier emblazoned with the GG fabric?
